My Impact story from the Alison Courses - Aaron John

Published on March 21, 2022

Alison is one of Aiducation International's partners in making our goal of continuous learning and professional development of our young talents through the Global Young Leaders Alliance (GYLA) a reality. In March 2020, like so many other organisations around the world, GYLA had to quickly adapt to pandemic conditions. The closure of universities threatened to disempower our members and stall their education journey. In order not to fall behind in their studies, GYLA members requested access to online education platforms. By partnering with Alison, Aiducation were able to offer education and training to GYLA members throughout the pandemic.

Aaron John, who is a GYLA member from the Philippines and an Alison Learner shared with us his experience and the impact of Alison Courses ...

"A pleasant morning, afternoon, or evening to you whenever and wherever you are! My name is Aaron John Duque and I am currently a 2nd-year college student from the Philippines pursuing a Bachelor's degree course in Applied Mathematics. Of course, I am also a proud Alison platform user.

To be honest, I only heard of Alison as I was browsing through GYLA Website. It was primarily the reason why I was able to connect to the Alison platform. There are lots of online platforms there, but I initially was not able to set aside a fraction of my time because of the hectic schedule. If I ever do have the time, I was half-hearted to join any e-learning courses because of the fear I may just disappoint myself in the end for not getting certification after I invest my time in it. It is not just I am basing the worth of an e-learning course in terms of eligibility to get a certificate, but maybe it is more on the question of "what could be new?"

Nevertheless, I still signed up for an Alison account once I heard of their partnership with Aiducation International. I tried to sign up precisely because the certification is free. Despite being free for the GYLA community, a question still lingers "what could be new?" As a learner myself, I usually get demotivated if lessons are simply just going in a loop. I want a lesson that could help me strengthen my foundational learning. I want a lesson that totally exposes me to a very new arsenal of skillsets. I tried to take around more than 5 courses, most of which are related to Mathematics. I am proud to say that I took it under the Alison platform. Alison inspired me to pursue learning despite adversities in an online setting. The pandemic has made learning to traverse a crossroad because of the delays and massive adjustments in learning platforms, styles, and communication. But at the same time, I also think that these platforms are presented with greater reach to present their relevance in the context of remote learning. Alison inspired and empowered me to learn at the comfort of my home. The partnership with Aiducation International provided a special-added value through certifications to remind us of our milestones that we can easily refer to.

Since I mentioned that I took Math courses, I probably would like to share more on the following 3 courses:

  • Foundation Diploma in Mathematics - Science, Technology and Engineering - Revised
  • Foundation Diploma in Mathematics - Business and Commerce - Revised
  • Basic Accounting

I chose the 3 courses because these are the crucial prerequisites that I really wanted to be familiar with as I embark on my Bachelor's course in Applied Mathematics. I started taking them around the time when I was a freshman. I was actually lost a bit at that time since I still had to cope with adjustment pains in online learning plus the mere fact that Applied Mathematics is a challenging course to take. I felt like I somehow needed a refresher and deepening of my knowledge in order to equip myself with strong foundations and familiarity. Good thing that I was able to finish these courses in the midway of my 1st semester as a freshman. I felt so accomplished after being able to finish these courses. I was also able to make good use of these foundational learnings as I can confidently bring up these complimentary learnings to better understand my rigorous courses in college. It was really a fruitful and well-timed opportunity to come across such partnerships.

Now that I am finally able to provide a stable footing in my sophomore year, I still owe a part of my appreciation to Alison for providing such comprehensive platforms. Not only did it help me familiarize academic concepts, but it also enabled me to have a productive disposition and attitude in learning. I realized that learning never runs out of its options; it is we who must open up and realize these options. It has surely made my learning experience a lot more fulfilling.

For those who are working in the Alison team, I just want to thank you for cherishing the value of learning and its accessibility. You really did a great job in helping educated souls out there. I just wish that more opportunities and expansion would come forth to your company to help for the greater cause. I also want to thank Aiducation International for always being in service. Your efforts are truly appreciated, and I wish that both Alison and Aiducation International continue to prosper despite the global recession. Cheers to longevity!"
