Mwanahamisi's Entrepreneurial Journey through Simcubator in Kigali, Rwanda

Published on April 11, 2024

Do you ever get those late-night bursts of inspiration where you just know you're onto something that could make a real difference? Well, I'm that person who sleeps with a notebook by the bedside, ready to capture those game-changing ideas that pop up when least expected. Call it crazy or call it genius, but those late-night brainwaves are often the ones that feel like they could change the world, one step at a time.

Let me take you back to my fourth year of undergraduate studies, deep into the world of Microbiology. Amidst the research and studies, a lightbulb moment struck - what if I could harness the power of a beneficial fungal species to revolutionize plant growth and combat disease-causing microbes naturally?

Summer School Bootcamp 2023
Fast forward to a transformative summer school boot camp organized by Aiducation International, Buhler, and the Swiss Study Foundation. Here, amidst brilliant minds brainstorming solutions to Kenya's food insecurity crisis, I pitched my idea. And guess what? Aiducation believed in it. I won the Food Systems and Sustainability Award, igniting a journey of innovation, excitement, and yes, a fair share of stress. But through it all, Aiducation has been my guiding force, connecting me with entrepreneurship training, legal aid, and invaluable networks.

Simcubator Incubation Program
Just a couple of months ago, a WhatsApp message from Maya at Aiducation dropped a bombshell: the Simcubator Incubation Program in Rwanda beckoned, with a tight application deadline. I took the leap, and before I knew it, I was on a plane to Kigali, embarking on my maiden international flight. Nerves tingling, excitement soaring, I dove headfirst into a week-long immersion at Norrsken East Africa, Rwanda's startup mecca.

Meeting the Simcubator team and fellow entrepreneurs was nothing short of electrifying. From crafting a compelling value proposition to mastering the art of storytelling in just three minutes (yep, I pitched to investors!), every moment was a lesson in entrepreneurship. And the takeaway? As startup founders, our stories are our strongest asset, paving the way for trust and investment in our ventures.

The SIMCUBATOR experience was a whirlwind of learning, growth, and unforgettable moments. And if you've got a business or social venture idea brewing, mark my words: keep tabs on Aiducation's startup application openings and the Simcubator Rwanda program. These platforms offer more than just training; they provide mentorship from seasoned professionals who've walked the walk and achieved remarkable success.

I’ll leave you with a quote I heard in one of the sessions,

 ‘I am not a businessman; I am a business.’

Thank you to Aiducation for shaping my journey since high school and empowering me to make a tangible impact on the farming community I hold dear.
