A Scholar's Story: How Aiducation International Empowered Me to Succeed

Published on February 20, 2023

When opportunities are scarce, education becomes a beacon of hope. This rings true for many young people in underprivileged communities, including Richard from Mombasa, Kenya. Despite facing significant financial constraints, Richard was determined to succeed and knew that education was the key to a better life. Fortunately, he was given a chance to pursue his dreams when he received a scholarship from Aiducation International in 2014. In this blog post, Richard shares his inspiring journey and the impact that Aiducation International has had on his life. From attending a top high school to studying at a university in the United States, Richard’s story is a testament to the transformative power of education and the importance of providing opportunities to underprivileged students.

Growing up in Mombasa, Kenya, I never thought that I would be able to attend high school, let alone university in the United States. My family was underprivileged, and we struggled to make ends meet. However, I was determined to succeed, and I knew that education was the key to a better life.

Receiving the scholarship and its impact on my education journey
In 2014, I received a scholarship from Aiducation International, which helped me fund my high school education at Meru School. The scholarship not only gave me the opportunity to attend a top school, but it also provided me with the necessary resources and support to excel academically. I was able to focus on my studies without worrying about financial constraints, and I graduated with excellent grades.

Participating in Aiducation programs and their impact on my personal and professional growth
Since then, I have attended and participated in several other Aiducation programs, including the Realize Your Potential Academy in 2018, and I have coordinated three academies in Nairobi and Watamu in 2019. These programs have had a significant impact on my personal and professional life. They have helped me develop leadership and communication skills and have also provided me with opportunities to network with other like-minded individuals.

Studying in the US on a full-ride scholarship

Currently, I am studying at Centre College in Kentucky, United States, thanks to the Lincoln Scholarship, which is a full-ride scholarship. My experience in the US has been eye-opening and transformative. I have been exposed to a different culture and way of life, and I have had the opportunity to interact with people from diverse backgrounds. I have also been able to pursue my academic and personal interests, and I am grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to me.

Gratitude to Aiducation, donors and message of inspiration to fellow alumni
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Aiducation International and its donors for their generosity and support. Without their help, I would not have been able to achieve my dream of pursuing higher education. I am grateful for the impact that they have had on my life, and I hope that they continue to provide opportunities for other underprivileged students to achieve their goals.

To my fellow Aiducation alumni, I would like to share a message of inspiration. Your background and circumstances do not define you, and you can achieve great things. Always remember to be true to yourself, work hard, and never give up on your dreams. With determination, perseverance, and the right support, you can overcome any obstacle and achieve your goals.
